Youth

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Parents, thank you so much for allowing and encouraging your young person to be a part of what God is doing at FPC. My time with them is amazing, and while I’m only serving for a short time, I really do value each chance we get to be together. Lives are being directed into His path. It’s great to watch.

On an operational note, you’ll be seeing a purple postcard in the mail shortly announcing the re-starting of our Wednesday Morning Bible Study. I invite you to encourage your son or daughter to join us. It’s a mid-week infusion of thoughtful study and prayer that I personally couldn’t do without.

Finally, if you ever need me, please contact me at bill.fowler@gmail.com or 256-426-5976.

Thanks again. Peace and Love.

- Bill Fowler, Interim Youth Dir.

Youth is a vital and emphasized part of daily life at First Presbyterian. The program is steeped in God’s word and looks outwardly for opportunities to extend His message of Grace into our community.

The Youth Committee oversees ministry for youth in grades 6-12 working with the associate pastor for youth. Our youth ministry has a strong emphasis on relationships, Bible study, and missions. To that end, we have the following regularly scheduled activities.

  • Sunday school with classes for 6-7th grades, 8th grade (Confirmation Class), 9-10th grades, and 11-12th grades meeting each Sunday morning at 9:00 am. The youth meet together initially in the basement of the Gideon Blackburn House for fellowship and announcements and then go to their individual classes for Bible study.
  • Wednesday morning Bible study meets at the Gideon Blackburn House at 6:45 a.m. and a light breakfast is served.  Every youth is welcome and we’ll stop in time for you to get to school.
  • PYC (Presbyterian Youth Connection) meets Sunday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This is a time for fellowship with supper served and the youth all gathering together initially. They then split into middle school and high school groups for Bible study.
  • LOGOS is a Wednesday night ministry of the church. The youth part consists of choir at 5:00 p.m. followed by supper and Bible study. At 7:00pm, there is recreation for youth who do not need to leave and study. Recreation ends at 7:45 p.m.
  • Other regular activities include cooking for the Downtown Rescue Mission several times a year, mission trips to the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, mission trips to Merida, Mexico, retreats at Maranatha Camp and Conference Center, an annual ski trip, and work days at various local sites. We strive to build relationships with God and each other, as we have fellowship together and serve the Lord.

For further information on any of our youth related programming, please contact Bill Fowler, Interim Youth Director at youth@hsv1pres.org or 536-3354 ext. 131.
