ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

At First Presbyterian Church we believe strongly in the importance of adult involvement in Christian Education. Christ calls his followers to actively pursue spiritual growth and enrichment. Regular participation in Adult Sunday School Classes is one of the primary ways in which this goal may be achieved. Active involvement in Sunday School also provides members with valuable opportunities for fellowship and the establishment of mutually supportive relationships which are so important for a healthy spiritual life.

All classes begin at 9:30 on Sunday mornings unless otherwise noted:

Harry B. Wade:
This class consists mostly of couples with elementary school age children. Their studies include a wide variety of books and topics.

Wilson/Chapman:
A class consisting of young, old, single, and married individuals who are interested in a serious and detailed study of the Bible.. This class is taught by various members on a rotating basis.

Seminar Class:
This class particularly appeals to those who desire something a little different from the traditional Sunday School model. It is primarily a discussion group which explores a broad range of long and short-term topics. Individuals in the class choose areas that interest them and lead the discussion.

Hill Climbers:
With an age range of “20 to 40 something”, this class studies a variety of topics.

Bereans:
Bereans means seekers. In the course of study they search the Scriptures on various topics, and utilize a “round table” discussion format.. This class consists of all ages.

Young Adults:
A new course focusing on Christ as a guide for navigating the challenges facing young adults.

Men’s Sunday School:
A men’s Sunday morning small group, doing a study of the Books of the Bible.

Classes using “Bible Discovery” Curriculum:
Published by Presbyterian and Reformed Education Ministries, this version of the Uniformed Lesson Series is a standardized ecumenical curriculum format which leads teachers and students through a structured study of various Bible books and passages. The following classes use this curriculum, each in its own unique way: Comrades Mamie B. Wise

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

Goodtimers: is a ministry is geared toward adults who are 55+ and anyone else who enjoys fellowship, food, and fun. Each month the Goodtimers go on an outing, alternating between in-town and out-of-town destinations. In the past year Goodtimers have taken in the sights in Guntersville, Florence, Moulton, Cullman, Scottsboro, and Lynchburg. They have also enjoyed concerts, Bunco tournaments, and art exhibits right in Huntsville. For more information on upcoming Goodtimers events, contact Rev. Patriarchs: a women’s Bible study by Beth Moore. Meets Wednesdays, 9:30 AM to 12 noon in the Carriage House. Suzanne Matthews, leading. Contact Ann Laue for more information at 650-3191.

The Old Testament: a video series by Amy-Jill Levine. This women’s Bible study begins at 9:45 AM on Wednesday mornings in the church library. Contact Reba Paludan for more information at 533-6056.

Lectionary Text Discussion: held Wednesday mornings at 7 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Breakfast is served on the first Wednesday of each month. Contact Jeff Kyser for more information at 539-5428.

Esther: a women’s Bible study by Beth Moore. Meets Friday mornings at 11 AM in the Carriage House. Contact Angie Servick for more information at 882-2232.

Presbyterian Women’s Bible Studies:
September through May, on the 2nd Monday of the month, women meet in small group circles for Bible Study at various times of the day.

Men’s Bible Study:
A Men’s Bible Study meeting every Wednesday. The men meet in the Fellowship Hall from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.

DISCIPLE:
An intense 34 week small group Bible Study, which follows a prescribed curriculum. The groups meet once a week at various times for two and one-half hours. Participants also commit to three to four hours per week of independent study.
