Bible Quest Discipline Policy
God has blessed First Presbyterian Church with the incredible gift of many children and given us the responsibility of nurturing them in their Christian walk. We take that responsibility seriously and recognize that a vital part of nurture is loving discipline. In order to ensure that discipline is consistent we have established the following policy that is applicable to all of our Children’s Ministries.
Why is discipline important?
- To ensure that all children and youth have the opportunity to learn and play uninterrupted by disruptive behavior
- To ensure that children and youth have a safe place to be
- Children need boundaries; even Jesus rebuked the disciples at times.
What is our one basic rule?
“We will all treat each other as Children of God.”
That rule implies that we will all:
- Be ATTENTIVE -listen when others are talking.
- Be RESPECTFUL – of others so that our behavior does not disrupt or disturb.
- Be SAFE so that our behavior does not endanger anyone else.
Consequences that will follow if this rule is broken are…
- Step 1 – Student will be given a verbal reminder of our rule and stating the inappropriate behavior to be stopped offering a positive alternative.
- Step 2 – if the inappropriate behavior continues the student will be given to the Shepherd who will upon their discretion escort the student to their parents or keep him/her present with them throughout remainder of the class time.
- Step 3 – If the inappropriate behavior continues for more than three Bible Quest classes the student will be expected to participate in a conference meeting with the parents, the DCE, and the Senior Pastor to determine how best to prevent the behavior from reoccurring.
