“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord!” (Psalm 122:1)
First Presbyterian Church offers two weekly worship services, both of which follow the common order of worship known as the “Service of the Lord’s Day.” These services are rich in liturgy, scripture, and music. Hymns are sung from the Presbyterian Hymnal using the edition printed in 1990.
8:00 am Worship – Gideon Blackburn House.
An abbreviated service of worship (8:00-8:45 am) following the same basic order of worship used at our 10:30 am service. This service utilizes the John Allan Room which is an intimate space accommodating approximately 70 people. Congregational singing is accompanied by piano along with a cantor.
10:30 am Worship – Sanctuary of the Church
A full “Service of the Lord’s Day” in the main sanctuary of the church (circa 1860). Congregational singing is accompanied by the organ, with anthems presented by the choir. Seasonally, instrumentalists and soloists supplement the musical offerings of the choir.
Spirit Come – Gideon Blackburn House (every second Sunday at 5:00 pm)
A non-traditional presentation of God’s Word through a lay-led worship experience. The service offers approximately 45 minutes of music and a message; both presented by First Presbyterian members.
Seasonal Worship
In addition to our weekly worship offerings, we also offer special services on occasions such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday.
“We are lifted up even to God by the exercises of religion. What is the design of the Word, the sacraments, the holy assemblies, and the whole government of the church, but that we may be united with God.” (John Calvin, Commentaries 31:248)
